Physical (corporal) punishment in schools around the world

Here's a great article about corporal punishment in schools in different countries around the world. As you will read,we're lucky enough to be live in a country which is in the "Premier League" of countries where children's rights are protected.Surprisingly, the U.S.A is in the 3rd division! Here's a map of all the States(in red) where children can be "smacked"

THE match!!

The first picture is Wembley now. The weather doesn't seem to help a lot today!

And the second one is what Trafalgar Square in London was looking like today at 1 pm. Everyone is so excited about tonight's match! I wasn't lucky to get tickets for Wembley, but some friends of mine were, and they are sending me pictures, the atmosphere seems to be amazing!

The little Pea (Chicharito)

Sing this to the tune of "Let it be" by the beatles!

Eight minutes into Space, at 8 km per second!

As the Space shuttle program comes to an end, (Endeavour is up there right now, working on the international Space station), here's a video of something we're unlikely to see again.
Just imagine; there are 8 people in that spaceship travelling faster than the speed of sound!

Anything missing?

The picture is not a very good one, but can you spot any difference between the windows in your house and these?
The blinds, that we call persianas, do not exist anywhere but in Spain, or at least not in England.
They like to take advantage of the light. This way, they normally wake up at around 6 am and go to bed earlier than us, around 10 pm. What is really surprising is that in June the sunrise is at 4.30 am, and they don't need anything to stop the light coming in!! They normally have sutters and blinds like the ones we have at school!

Guggenheim's creator designs; "The melting skyscraper"

Frank Gehry, the architect who designed the Guggenheim in Bilbao has built another extraordinary building, this time in New York. It's less a building than a sculpture, where the metal lines are softened and "rippled" to make it look like it's melting before your eyes.

Bombing practice. Answer the following questions

Here's a very strange thing. A beautiful part of the country, where only sea birds and the occasional fishing boat pass, and then the most dangerous warplanes man has invented.
Watch the clip and see if you can answer the questions.

What is special about Garvie island?
Where is it?
What happens to some of the bombs?
Why is a bomb disposal expert's job safer under water?

Do you complain about lunch at school?

I should start saying something positive, but what I still don't get used to, is to have a sandwich for lunch in 20 minutes! And I must say I'm lucky, because a lot of people have lunch at 11.30!! while I do at 12.15 am. Can anyone think of having lunch at 11.30? You're still in your morning break! You'll think I'm crazy, but as all Spanish people here, I can't wait to have a nice and warm dish of lentils!

News from England!

Hi everyone!

As some of you might know I'm living in the south of England, in a town called Southampton. I've been here for over a year and a half and I'm working as a Spanish teacher at 3 schools.

From now on I'll be writing here English curiosities, things that I like and don't like, what it is like to live in this country, etc. If you have any questions about living here I'd love to answer them!

This is a picture of Southampton, Bargate, right in the city centre

See you soon,

Irene

Well done students and teachers!

Congratulations to both students and teachers for the charity football match.

In the end, the teachers won a really hard game, but the student team gave a great performance, coming closer to winning than any team before them.

So well done guys. With your efforts, A record amount of money was raised for the very good cause of the Merced Orphanage in Mexico.
You should all be proud.

We'll publish photos soon!

How to remove children's milk teeth!

My niece is 6 years old, the age when little girls'"milk"-teeth fall out.
She has a wobbly tooth, but she won't let me pull it out for her.
So I thought of another idea!!
